[We have received a used STAR BUBINGA snare drum, a limited edition model that was previously exclusively sold in Japan by Drum Station!]

Native to Africa, this wood, also known as "sapele mahogany," has a color similar to mahogany.
Among them, the rarest quilted sapele wood is used for the outer ply, and it is finished with a gloss natural lacquer.
The intricate and rich wood grain, reminiscent of quilted fabric, gives it a timeless yet luxurious look.

By molding the shell of the bubinga wood, considered a flagship material for TAMA drums, thinner than that of the Starclassic, and designing a thicker Sound Focus Ring (reinforcement), a deep sound with strong mid-low frequencies is achieved without compromising the clarity of the sound.
On the interior, Cordia wood, familiar to long-time Tama fans, is used as a decorative material, creating a luxurious feel befitting a flagship model. Furthermore, the wood grain is set horizontally instead of vertically as in the standard model, contributing to improved resonance not only in appearance but also in sound.
This is a 7-inch deep model, not found in the regular lineup, and its low-end components, which give a sense of spatial depth when tuned low, are particularly noteworthy. Despite its deep body, the snare wires are sensitive, and when tuned in the medium range, it exhibits good tonal cohesion, giving the impression that it is easy to control even without muting. It has sufficient volume and is finished with an excellent tone that balances a delicate sound image with a deep sound.



The edge of the drumhead, which is the point of contact between the drumhead and the drum shell and is responsible for the impression and resonance of the drum's sound, has been positioned approximately 1mm further inward than in previous series (3.5mm from the outside / 2.5mm for Star Classic), resulting in a bearing edge that can be described as a rounded, half-round edge. This shape, often seen in vintage drums, makes the sound fuller and rounder, while also increasing the contact area with the head, thus better transmitting head vibrations to the shell.


The Star series snare drums feature an original shape that differs from the shapes used in conventional TAMA drums. Similar to the tom-toms and bass drums, the snare wires have a larger flat surface area to ensure that they make as much even contact with the head surface as possible, in order to maximize the resonance of the shell and obtain a clear, articulate sound.


By achieving high responsiveness to the snare head and a perfect balance of excellent grip and crisp resonance, it delivers a light and sharp sound. It also achieves a delicate touch that captures even the most intricate passages and rich expressiveness.


The lugs used in the Star series are a bridge type with a compact design that minimizes the contact surface with the shell. By using smaller lugs, the weight of the snare drum itself is reduced, and an 8-tension specification was deliberately chosen. By reducing the number of parts, the inherent potential of the shell is more open and the resonance is richer.


Three air holes are installed in the horizontal center of the shell, producing a brighter, drier sound compared to typical shells with only one air hole. Furthermore, maple air caps are used instead of metal parts to minimize their impact on shell vibration.
