Description
Description
The JCM2000 series, released in 1997, captivated many guitarists. The DSL, a particularly popular 2-channel model, is the name given to this series.
With this renewal, the preamp design has been updated and refined to have a nuance closer to that of the JCM2000/DSL.
There are two channels, Classic Gain and Ultra Gain, which can be switched using the included footswitch, and each channel has two modes selectable using a switch on the front panel.
As their names suggest, each channel has its own unique character. Classic Gain features two modes, Clean and Crunch, delivering a wide range of tones from 1959-style clean tones like a JCM800 2203. Meanwhile, Ultra Gain features two modes, Lead 1 and Lead 2, delivering powerful tones ranging from a modified Marshall JCM800 2203 tones with even higher gain and mid-boosting punch.
The two channels share a simple and easy to use passive 3-band EQ with bass/mid/treble controls.
The equalizer section also features a tone shift that cuts the midrange of the guitar sound, creating a rough, modern metal tone, especially when combined with high gain settings. Each channel also features a built-in digital spring reverb, which can be turned on/off with the included footswitch.
The power amp section features resonance and presence controls. The resonance control boosts the bass without muddying the sound, while the presence control emphasizes the high end. Another attractive feature of the new DSL is the ability to select full or half power output using the pentode/triode switch on the rear panel.
New features added with the renewal include a silent recording function, two additional master volume systems, improved sound quality at half power, and MIDI compatibility.
