Description

Ambient, chaotic, glitchy, bizarre, organic
Versatile granular delay

In the high, untamed forests of the north, mystical treefolk have ruled since ancient times. At the first new moon of spring, the sounds of the treefolk nurturing saplings and grafting pieces of their own branches onto them, passing them on to the next generation, could be heard. Within each new generation, the life force of the previous generations was passed on. These sounds were both very old and very new. Yes, they were called... Fables.
The Fable is a collection of five granular delay programs built around samples and chopped algorithms, creating new sonic adventures. Get ready to explore deep, rich and strangely beautiful textures.

What is Granular?

Granular is a digital processing technique for microsampling, where short samples called grains are read from a delay buffer. Fable lets you adjust these grains by manipulating the length, position, and buffer size of the samples they're read from. You can play them at double or half speed for pitch-shifting or time-stretching effects, play them backwards, or read from multiple positions to achieve a variety of magical effects.

Dual Feedback Paths

Fable employs two analog feedback paths that create a unique mix of effected and unprocessed feedback for each program. The two feedback paths interact and organically compose to offer a wide range of sounds and effects to experiment with.

Five Fascinating Programs
FABLE has five custom programs centered around sampled and chopped delays.

I. Reverse Delay into Reverse Granular
Program 1 uses a reverse granular algorithm within a reverse delay to play back sampled "grains" in reverse. The feedback path created by the "reverse playback" and "re-reverse playback" transforms the sound image in a complex and organic way. Lowering the "grain" size (X knob) produces a long, smooth effect of temporary reverse playback, while raising the size produces a crazy, abnormally dense reverse playback effect.

II. Forward Delay into Octave Up Granular
Program 2 applies a forward delay to a granular program one octave above, with the "grains" played at double speed. The "swarms" of double-speed sounds weave through the feedback path, creating a bright, airy waterfall of sound.

III. Analog-Style Delay into Octave Down Granular
Program 3 applies a warm, dark, analog-style delay to a sub-octave granular program played backward at half speed. The slowed-down repeats, combined with analog processing, create deep, thunderous footsteps and thick, muddy ambience.

IV. Multi-Tap Granular into Multi-Tap Granular (Grain-Verb)
Program 4 features two multi-tap granular algorithms that alternate between playing multiple samples simultaneously from each granular buffer. Multiple points of the sampled sound are fed back together in a feedback path, creating unusual "clouds" and unique, organic reverbs. The time knob controls the time stretching of both granular algorithms in this program, varying the length and tonal character of both granular effects.

V. Forward Delay into Randomized Pitch Granular
Program 5 applies a forward delay to a granular program that randomly pitch-shifts the sampled sound: pitch up (double speed), pitch down (half speed), normal speed (normal speed), and reverse speed (reverse speed). Since the pitch of the sampled sound changes each time it's played, try changing the rate of the randomized pitch modulation with the X knob.
