The Lee Sklar LSS5, which was exhibited at the 2026 NAMM Show, has arrived! This unit is the first LSS model to feature a Neve Preamp!

The Dingwall bass, with its distinctive FANNED-FRET SYSTEM, body balance, and pickup placement, has impressed first-call bassist Lee Sklar, who has participated in recordings and live performances with numerous famous artists, and has earned high praise from discerning bassists around the world.

This instrument is a signature model of Lee Sklar, a master musician whose name has been etched into countless hit songs by artists such as James Taylor, Jackson Browne, Crosby, Stills & Nash, and Yumi Matsutoya, to name just a few.

For many years, Dingwall has been making basses that Lee Sklar has trusted most, using as his main instrument on tour and as his most important piece of equipment for recording. Together with Lee Sklar, they created the ultimate signature bass, the "LSS," featuring his favorite hot rod (classic car) color scheme, powerful and clear sound, and wood materials. Lee Sklar describes the bass as "Stunning!"

The body combines two different woods, Northern Ash and Alder (Dual Density), resulting in a well-balanced tone with a wide range and excellent sustain. The pickups are positioned at what's called the "sweet spot," where the bass tone cuts through clearly, creating an outstanding sound that maintains its presence without being intrusive in any genre, whether it's a band or a vocal-driven song.
Furthermore, by using mandolin-sized frets to suit his preference, it offers an astonishingly smooth feel, much like a fretless bass, and, depending on playing style, a fret lifespan of nearly 5 to 10 years.

The Super-Fatty2 pickup, like its predecessors, is constructed with neodymium magnets and steel pole pieces, resulting in a noiseless tone with clear lows and added warmth and thickness to the high strings. Its sound is also well-suited for natural overdrive, and it produces a fantastic thick growl when plugged into a tube amp and picked hard.

Replacing the previously installed Glockenklang, this unit features a newly developed Neve onboard preamp, created for John Taylor (Duran Duran)'s signature model, the JT-3. Its natural effect remains flawless even at full volume, providing a pleasant change to the low and high frequencies, as if applying a high-quality clean booster. The Neve onboard preamp is not currently sold separately, so its excellence can only be experienced with a Dingwall bass like this one, which originally came equipped with it.
