Description
A used 1963 Les Paul SG Custom Ultra Light Aged guitar has arrived!
~ Murphy Lab ~
Murphy Lab, a new lab located within the Gibson Custom Shop in Nashville, specializes in guitar aging (a process that recreates the aged look and feel of vintage guitars) using the latest scientifically-based technology.
Tom Murphy, a founding member of the Gibson Custom Shop and project leader of the Historic Collection, has since developed a technique called aging, which brings a vintage look and feel to new guitars. Backed by his passion and deep knowledge of vintage guitars, Tom's techniques allow him to perfectly replicate the natural lacquer cracks and wear that come with playing a Gibson guitar.
Tom Murphy and Gibson scientifically analyzed the nitrocellulose lacquers of the 1950s and 1960s, which develop cracks known as weatherchecking over time, to unravel the process of change. After extensive testing on prototypes of various models, they developed a lacquer process that reproduces the natural weatherchecking of vintage guitars.
The idea for Murphy Lab was born when Tom Murphy and his team at the Gibson Custom Shop began testing prototypes with various body shapes, finishes and aging levels. As a result, Murphy Lab was established within the Gibson Custom Shop to pursue unprecedented realism and attention to detail in aging.
Tom Murphy and his artistic creations have played an important role in Gibson's history and will continue to live on forever as Murphy Lab.
This 1963 Les Paul SG Custom Reissue features "Ultra Light Aged" finish, the least severe of four aging levels. 1963 marked the end of Gibson's contract with Les Paul, marking the official change of the "Les Paul" model to the "SG." To mark this transition, this guitar features "Les Paul Custom" engravings on the truss rod cover and neck-end plate. The gold hardware, inherited from the so-called "Black Beauty" Les Paul Custom, along with the ebony fingerboard, mother-of-pearl block, and sparkling split diamond inlays on the headstock create a luxurious feel unique to this premium model. Its princely appearance in white will add a touch of elegance to your stage presence.
The Ultra Light Aged model features minimal weathering and dents, giving it the natural appearance of aging, as if it had been carefully stored in a case for many years. The fingerboard edges are rolled for superior grip, a finish that players will appreciate.
The basic specs are the latest Historic Spec, with unpotted Custombucker Alnico III pickups, an updated assembly, and True Historic parts. The sharp response that follows your picking strokes will have you hooked on the magical Gibson tone the moment you plug your guitar into your amp!
Not only does it have a great sound projection when the tone is turned down, but the controllable assembly also maintains a moderate brightness even when the volume is turned down, making it a great match for modern use!
Although the metal parts of this particular guitar are dull, there are no noticeable large scratches, more than 90% of the frets remain, and there is a slight looseness in the 6th string tuning peg bushing, but this does not affect its current use.
The truss rod has ample room to tighten and loosen, and there are no problems with the electrical system.
This is a rare model, so it's a must-have for collectors!
