Description
Description
This Studio guitar features the SSH pickup arrangement that was used in the Modern Eagle Limited, which was the top model in the lineup at the time.
This guitar features a classic maple top/mahogany back body and is equipped with 57/08 Narrowfield pickups in the front and center positions, and a 57/08 in the bridge position. The 57/08 Narrowfield pickups have a similar nuance to a mini humbucker, eliminating the volume difference between the front/center and bridge positions that is common with SSH layouts. Naturally, the resulting sound nuances are different, allowing for a wide variety of tones to enjoy. The escutcheon has also undergone a minor change since the 2011 model, with the heads of the screws that secure the pickups now recessed.
The finish is PRS's V12. This finish was developed over a long period of time to "enhance the beauty, natural sound, and feel of the wood itself," resulting in an unprecedented thinness and hardness. According to Paul Reed Smith, "V12 is somewhere between an acrylic finish and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish, and it has a unique, classic character."
The neck shape is Pattern, which was released at the same time as the V12. It's similar to the traditional PRS necks made in the late '80s, and when you actually hold it, it feels like the sides of the previous wide-fat shape are slightly thinner. While it's a matter of personal preference, I don't think it will feel strange to switch from a wide-fat shape.
The condition of this particular guitar is in player's condition, with the Eagle tag missing and small dents and paint chipping. Of course, the electronics and playing aspects are in perfect condition, and the frets are undamaged and about 70% intact, making it a perfect guitar for heavy use. This model boasts the crisp, low-noise sound characteristic of a narrow-field pickup, plus the ability to coil-tap the rear pickup, offering a wide range of tonal possibilities. While it remains a perennial favorite and is still available in the current Core lineup, models with a stop-tail bridge, known for their direct sound, are rare.
