Description
One day in 2018, a large collection of vintage Tube Screamers was collected for a magazine article, and a mysterious TS808 was discovered amongst it. It captivated everyone who played it, and this 1980#1 Cloning mod was born. This TS808 was manufactured between October and November 1980, and was given the identification number #1 to distinguish it from the many other units, hence the name #1 (Sharp One).
The tone of the #1 was clearly different from other TS808s produced in the same year, lot, and with the same parts, and the difference was tantalizingly musical. Its distinctive sound was characterized by a clarity and separation that overwhelmed the others, along with a contrasting richness. CULT founder Hosokawa, who was captivated by the tone, enlisted the help of Susumu Tamura of Nisshin Onpa Seisakusho, who designed the OD-808 circuit in 1978. They thoroughly measured, analyzed, and studied the #1, and with the help of extensive measurement data and scientific evidence, they were able to replicate the tone of the #1 in the modern TS808.
The exquisite transparency, separation, and strong low-end push of the #1 have been captured by Susumu Tamura himself in this #1 Cloning mod. Tamura's autograph on the label on the back of the unit is proof of this.
