Description

Legends of Fuzz Series

In the late 1960s, Japan was brimming with great guitar pedal manufacturers and innovation.
At the same time, one of the more popular and hard-to-find effects was the Univox Super-Fuzz.
This octave fuzz transforms single notes and chords into a thick, searing texture, and the high octave-up sound it produces when played with a distorted sound has attracted attention.
It was first released as part of a large amplifier-head-sized multi-effects unit called the Honey Psychedelic Machine (1967), but was re-released a few months later as a standalone pedal called the Honey* Baby Crying Effect.
Soon after Honey went bankrupt, they switched to the Shin-Ei brand, and by 1968 Shin-Ei had become a major brand in guitar pedals in Japan, producing Shin-Ei brand effects while also OEM-producing the same circuits for dozens of other brands, including Shaftesbury, Kent, Crown, Jax, and the American Univox.
This circuit has since spread to the product lineups of brands around the world.
Thanks to product placement by The Who's Pete Townsend, the Univox Unicord Super-Fuzz version became more popular than the other versions.
The original version (1968) had a simple, understated gray metal enclosure, but in 1970 it was redesigned to have a more eye-catching appearance with a large rectangular footpad with the word SUPER-FUZZ written on the top surface.
You could also choose color combinations such as Red/Blue, Black/Grey, and White/Black.
The Supreme is an exact replica of the extremely rare White/Black Super-Fuzz model from Josh Scott's collection.
While all early versions of this pedal are remarkably similar, this 1972 unit has a special magic that makes it stand out from the rest.
Imagine an Octavia Fuzz that's been in a bad mood all morning.
That's what this pedal is: a loud, screaming octave fuzz with massive power.
