Description
Description
In 1969, Electro-Harmonix released the first version of the legendary Big Muff distortion fuzz, the Triangle.
Throughout the 1970s, various new versions of this famous circuit were released, including the V2 Ram's Head (1973), V3 Pi (1977), and V4 OP-Amp (1978), but in 1984 they all stopped.
With Electro-Harmonix's second bankruptcy, the powerful Big Muff disappeared for about 10 years.
In the early 1990s, founder Mike Matthews discovered that 1970s ElectroHarmonix pedals were being traded at vintage/rare prices, and in 1991 he signed a manufacturing agreement with a former Soviet manufacturer in St. Petersburg to revive the Big Muff.
This new version was technically called the 7th version of the Big Muff, but since Mike no longer owned the previous trademark, it was named the Mike Matthews Red Army Overdrive, manufactured by Sovtek.
This version is one of the earliest Russian-made Big Muffs and perhaps the rarest of all.
Only a very small number were produced between 1991 and 1992, and there are very few examples left, making them nearly impossible to obtain.
Although it shares characteristics with the famous Sovtek Civil War (late 1992) version, this version is considered to be a separate entity in its own right.
Warmer, clearer and more articulate sounding than any Sovtek Big Muff that followed, the Red Army offers a unique flavor of a very familiar effect.
The Crimson is an authentic replica of Josh Scott's Red Army, giving you a unique part of fuzz history.
