Description

The Legendary Tone is Reborn Here and Now

In 2018, Paul Reed Smith and PRS amp designer Doug Sewell were granted special permission to analyze a vintage amplifier that Jimi Hendrix personally owned in the late '60s. The Authentic Hendrix Touring Circuit was born from that amplifier's circuitry.
The PRS HDRX series, which took many years from the start of analysis to its release, is the result of uncompromising craftsmanship, bringing back to life the legendary sound that captivated people around the world at the time.

・Power & Preamp Tubes
As a result of careful selection of tube combinations, the HDRX amplifier is equipped with a matched pair of New Sensor EL34EH power tubes and JJ ECC803S preamp tubes. Each preamp tube is assigned as follows: V1: Input
V2: Cathode Follower V3: Phase Inverter
V3: Phase Inverter

・Circuit & Power Supply
The HDRX circuit was designed based on an amplifier circuit originally owned by Jimi Hendrix, which PRS analyzed. Furthermore, numerous vintage amplifiers were used as references during the development of this amplifier. Through trial and error, we were finally able to capture that "sound." In addition, the HRDX100 and HRDX50 utilize a proprietary matching circuit to closely match the output transformer's sound to the original. Furthermore, the HDRX50 uses a power supply equivalent to that used in a 100W vintage amplifier, enabling it to achieve a sound far closer to the nuances of a 100W amplifier than a typical 50W amplifier. Furthermore, this proprietary power supply design also achieves incredibly low noise.

・Output Transformer
This unit features a custom Straight Edge output transformer, designed and manufactured by a manufacturer carefully selected from a wide range of options, to perfectly recreate the original sound used in the late 60s.

・Chassis
PRS HDRX amplifiers are designed for long-term durability, especially for touring artists, and feature a 0.0060 steel chassis rather than aluminum. All steel is also treated to prevent corrosion.

・Circuit Boards
The board is made of 2mm thick double-sided through-hole material using 2oz copper, and a unique tagboard structure is used to ensure consistency with the original amplifier, improve grounding, and improve durability.

・Built with Serviceability in Mind*
The bias jack and bias adjustment knob are located on the rear panel, allowing you to easily measure the voltage (mV) applied to the power tubes and check their condition without removing the chassis. Since PRS uses matched pairs of power tubes, turning the bias adjustment control affects all power tubes.

*The optimum voltage for power tubes is around 30mV, but when adjusting the bias or replacing power tubes, be sure to ask a professional technician to do the work. Or, be sure to consult the store where you purchased the product beforehand.
