Description

The legendary studio limiter "RM 58" has been reborn in modern times as a pedal!

The legendary studio limiter "RM 58 LIMITER" was custom-made in the 1970s.
Like the original, it retains the Class A audio circuitry and FET gain reduction that provide natural compression and faithful sound reproduction, but has been further improved to suit today's digital recording environments, with expanded headroom and other features.

In addition, with dedicated INPUT/OUTPUT jacks for +4dB line equipment and -10dB instrument equipment, as well as an ON/OFF footswitch, the RM 58 can be used not only as a desktop unit but also as a powerful pedal limiter with studio-quality performances and recordings. It's the perfect companion for discerning players who want to maintain consistent sound without altering the sound quality as much as possible. Even in bypass mode, the signal passes through the buffer, adding a slight warmth and natural thickness to the original sound, but this change is actually one of the charms of the RM 58.

A high-quality limiter is essential for digital recording. When recording audio signals digitally, controlling peak components with a high-quality limiter is extremely effective in improving the quality of the recording. To make the most of the limited digital real estate, it is important to suppress peaks at the analog stage and utilize the maximum possible resolution and bandwidth. Even if you record digitally without suppressing peak components and then suppress the peaks with a plug-in limiter, you will not be able to ensure sufficient resolution and bandwidth at the recording stage, resulting in a sound that is far from optimal. The RM 58 LIMITER has further evolved to improve the quality of digital recordings, including improving headroom, for use in modern digital recording environments.

Gain Reduction Meter: Equipped with a large backlit VU meter, you can intuitively monitor the amount of gain reduction. The amount of gain reduction is also accurately measured using the side chain.

Attack/Release Controls: The attack and release controls feature six-position switches, each set to a musical range. Unlike variable controls, the six-position switches can be easily reconfigured.

Dual operation mode: +4dB and -10dB inputs and outputs are provided, allowing compatibility with a wide range of equipment. Quiet, high-quality sound is achieved, and the output is low impedance.
The sound quality is not affected by transformers or other devices used to achieve balance, and the sound quality remains natural.

Ideal for guitar and bass
The -10dBu input has high impedance, allowing you to directly connect guitars and basses without compromising the tone of your instrument. Compression is also useful for bass and acoustic guitars, providing a natural, faithful sound. The -10dBu output is ideal for instrument amplifiers and consumer recording equipment, and can also be used as a studio-quality pedal limiter.

Controls: ATTACK, RELEASE, THRESHOLD, OUTPUT
Input/Output: -10dBV (IN, OUT) +4dBV (IN, OUT)
Power supply: Dedicated adapter (48V DC center positive)
Dimensions: 220 x 145 x 58 mm

Roger Mayer is best known as Jimi Hendrix's engineer. Since the 1960s, he has also created effects for top musicians like Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck. He also built a variety of recording equipment, including a custom console for Olympic Studios. Studio equipment was his primary focus during his time in New York in the 1970s, when he custom-built compressors, limiters, and consoles for renowned studios. The MODEL RM 58 limiter, among others, was manufactured in New York in 1970 and quickly installed in top studios across the US, including Record Plant, Hit Factory, Electric Lady, Atlantic Records, Elektra Records, Columbia Records, and A&R Studio.
Since major studios were equipped with the RM 58, it's no exaggeration to say that it was used in the production of most of the classic albums of the time. Even today, it is highly regarded by many producers as one of the most sought-after vintage pieces of equipment, and is still in use in the studios of top engineers.
