Description

A rare BMT model is now available in excellent condition!

Known as a pioneer of multi-string basses, Ken Smith has always believed in creating the highest quality instruments from the player's perspective since founding the company in 1978.
Originally a professional bass player, Mr. Smith uses his experience as a player, gained from playing with leading artists such as Horace Silver, and his extensive knowledge of wood as one of America's leading wood collectors, to create instruments using only carefully selected, high-quality tonewoods. All instruments that leave the workshop are personally handcrafted by Mr. Smith and undergo strict quality control before being released into the world.

This rare BMT model existed during the transitional period leading up to the birth of the BSR model. It retains the wide range of tone provided by the precious Honduras mahogany core, while the 7-piece neck provides just the right amount of compression. The Macassar ebony top and back create a lustrous, weighty tone that's reminiscent of a bass. It's a wonderful instrument that will have you grooving along without even realizing it. Only 60 BMT models were ever produced, and this is the only one with an ebony top and back and a two-band EQ, making it a truly rare specimen.

The tonewoods used are of the highest quality, having been thoroughly seasoned by natural drying for up to 30 years. This contributes to the guitar's rich tone, a musical feel that allows you to sense the dry sound of the wood, and to the outstanding stability of the neck.

In terms of condition, there is some paint fading and slight unevenness on the body sides, as well as very fine scratches on the sides and bottom of the body, but other than that there are no noticeable scratches, and considering the age of the car it is in good condition.
There are no other functional issues with the neck, fretboard, or electrical system, and the guitar was re-set up by Sleek Elite, the official importer, in 2024, resulting in a comfortable playing and sound. There is a crack in the front pickup cover that has been repaired.

Since the early days when multi-string basses were not yet common, Ken Smith has developed everything from scratch, including the instrument itself, tapered strings, onboard preamps with printed circuit boards, bridges and pickups for multi-string basses, etc. It is no exaggeration to say that the brand has contributed most to popularizing multi-string basses!

This is a rare opportunity to get your hands on a rare BMT model!
Don't miss it!
