What is required of an overdrive?
The speed of the sound, the sense of clarity, the moderate compression and stickiness.
Variable boost amount and gain range from clean to drive.
There are many things to look for. And above all, is the quality of the distortion pleasing?
A masterpiece has an absolute sweet spot even if it does not meet all of these conditions.
Many things have been created with the aim of becoming these masterpieces, but the masterpieces made by our predecessors still stand alone.
There was a masterpiece called Overdrive that left a huge impression on me, and it was one of the reasons I started making effects pedals.
I don't know the details of circuits and parts, but I was greatly influenced by what I saw and heard about the production process at the time.
The PD-1 is modeled after that Overdrive, but it's not a copy.
Because I don't know the circuit or the parts used.
There's not much point in knowing the circuit if you don't have the same parts. I think it's more romantic not to know.
And the freedom increases.
The board is cube-shaped, and we understand that some people may not like this format.
If I was just trying to hide the circuitry, I wouldn't have chosen this form.
However, when I tried it, I noticed a unique change in the sound.
For example, it's like the change in sound when you put the back cover on the case and when you remove it. It also improves noise resistance.
Even small differences can add up to multiple layers and create a sound. This is a very tedious process in production, but it cannot be ignored.
Even though it is wasteful and unfortunate that if an abnormality is found after assembly it cannot be corrected and will have to be discarded, we decided to go with this format.
The PD-1 offers a smooth, adjustable range from crisp clean to crunch and drive sounds. By adjusting the harmonics with the ADD Control knob on top of the unit, you can match it with a variety of amplifiers, and by combining it with the Tone control, you can achieve your preferred settings as either a booster or a driver.
