Description

*Operates with the separately sold PSU-1 (TG CHANNEL dedicated power supply).

The EMI TG12345 Curve Bender has been reissued to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Abbey Road Studios. Designer Wade Goake of CHANDLER LIMITED and Peter Cobbin of Abbey Road Studios have developed the ultimate analog EQ, adding new features based on the TG12345 console that recorded the historic albums of The Beatles and Pink Floyd.

EMI's analog EQ development began with the RS57 in 1954, and progressed to the TG12345 in 1969 and the TG12412 in 1974, which EMI designers affectionately named the Curve Bender. This latest version retains the incredibly organic sound of the time, while adding the performance and functions necessary for modern recording environments.

Peter Cobbin of Abbey Road Studios used the EQs of the original TG consoles when mixing Beatles albums like Anthology and Yellow Submarine (Remix). He had been thinking for years about how to add more flexibility to the great analog sound of the original TG consoles. After Wade Gauke and Abbey Road officially partnered, the project began.

The slope, position, and sound quality of the EQ of the original TG desk have been perfectly reproduced, and the EQ points, which were only 2 bands/9 positions on the original, have been greatly expanded to 51 EQ points (4 band EQ + filter), and the boost/cut range and Q shape switching have also been greatly expanded.

The gorgeous, vintage sound of EMI/Abbey Road Studios returns to the world of modern recording!

NOTE ON FRONT PANEL LABELING
The front panel of this unit features both white and yellow printing. The white printing is identical to the VINTAGE Curve Bender, while the yellow printing represents features (not found on the original vintage unit) that have been expanded by Wade Goeke and Pete Cobbin of Abbey Road Studios. Users can recall the sounds and settings of the era or try new settings.

CONTROLS
■BYPASS
The Curve Bender can be bypassed independently on the left and right. The germanium line amplifier, reminiscent of the vintage TG MK1 console, remains in the circuit even when the EQ and input amplifier are bypassed. This allows you to control only the rich vintage feel of the Curve Bender.

■HIGH PASS / LOW PASS
The original Curve Bender did not have a built-in pass filter, but this one does. The circuit configuration of the vintage TG unit is applied to the carefully considered frequency selection.

High Pass - 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 80, 100, 160, 200, 320Hz (Gentle Slope, -6dB/oct)

Low Pass - 30, 20, 18, 14, 10, 8.1, 5, 3, 2kHz (Gentle Slope, -6dB/oct)

■OUTPUT GAIN
Like traditional TG units, it features +/-10dB output gain in 1dB steps, and a gold contact/highest quality hand-wired rotary switch for mastering quality sophistication and sound quality.

■BOOST/CUT and MULTIPLY SWITCH
The original TG unit's EQ boost/cut was +/- 10dB in 1 or 2dB steps. This unit is standardized to 1dB steps. In addition to the original +/- 10dB, you can set it to +/-15dB mode by setting the Multiply switch to the X1.5 position. +/-15dB mode has a more aggressive and sharp EQ curve than X1 mode (+/-10dB), allowing for even more tone variation.

INDIVISUAL BYPASS
By setting the MULTIPLY SWITCH to the center OUT position, you can bypass each EQ channel individually.

AMPLIFICATION
The core TG12345 Curve Bender amplifier is based on the TG12345 MK1 amplifier, as its germanium transistor-based amplifier circuitry is what gives the TG12345 its fantastic analog sound.

GENERAL EQ NOTES
The EQ points of the original vintage TG12345 are accurately and completely reproduced by the positions marked in white on the front panel, while the positions marked in yellow are the expanded positions. In all cases, the original EQ curve is preserved.

■BELL and SHELVING
The EQ of the original TG console was a single-point shelving EQ for BASS and an 8-position peaking type for TREBLE. These curves are perfectly reproduced in this unit. In addition, this unit is designed so that you can switch between shelving and peaking EQ curves for both BASS and TREBLE. You can not only get the original sound, but also obtain even more tonal variations.

CONNECTION
All connections on the CURVE BENDER are transformer balanced, pin 2 hot.

POWER SUPPLY
This uses a dedicated external power supply (PSU-1) sold separately. It has the following configuration:

■Power Pin Out
1) Chassis and Audio Ground
2) 48Volt
3) +28Volt
4) -28Volt

Regarding grounding, the power supply is equipped with two black banana connectors. You can connect this audio ground to earth ground with a solid wire. This is up to you to decide based on your studio environment. Choose the one with the lowest noise floor.
