Description

*Operates with the separately sold PSU-1 (TG CHANNEL dedicated power supply).

The sound quality of the TG console at EMI/ABBEY ROAD Studios was instrumental in the wonderfully natural and organic analog sound of the late Beatles and many of Pink Floyd's masterpieces. Even today, the beautiful sound of the vintage TG console can be heard in the works of artists like Oasis. The EQ of the original TG console contributed greatly to that sound. This EQ, based on the legendary Pultec EQP-1a3, had a wonderful texture.

The TG Channel MKII is a long-awaited combination of a head amplifier with the same discrete, transformer structure as the classic TG2 microphone preamp and a Pultec-type passive EQ.

The superb all-inductor EQ design perfectly replicates the original. This EQ consists of a sweet high (boost), an inductor-type mid-boost EQ, a precisely-pointed mid-cut EQ, and a rich, creamy low-boost EQ. It also features a selectable low-cut (high-pass filter), allowing for more versatile and colorful sound creation than the original TG console. With its timeless, superb analog quality, this Pultec-type EQ is truly a pedigree-worthy vintage EQ. It luxuriously incorporates all of the passive EQ perfected by the legendary Pultec EQP-1a3.

The TG Channel also incorporates the same superb analog sound achieved by the TG2 head amplifier. It delivers a timeless vintage sound with the harmonic sensitivity of NEVE and the warm punch of API. In addition to a microphone input, it also features a line input and a DI input for instruments, making it versatile for a wide range of applications.

All the organic sound you need for modern digital recording is packed into the TG Channel MKII box.

■DETAIL
The TG Channel mK II delivers a stunning vintage sound through 100% discrete transistor circuitry, custom transformers, meticulous craftsmanship, and meticulous handcrafting. The preamp section uses the same design as the TG2 and is equipped with a passive and inductor-based EQ.

◆CONNECTIONS
The TG CHANNEL connection is transformer balanced with pin 2 hot.

◆POWER SUPPLY
Use the PSU-1 (sold separately) and connect it with the dedicated 4-pin cable (included).

◆DIRECT INPUT
The front panel Direct Input is a high-impedance instrument input that bypasses the microphone input transformer and goes directly to the high-impedance circuitry.

Input Gain/Mic-Line Level
The TG CHANNEL features balanced mic/line inputs. The mic input is transformer-balanced with 600 ohm impedance. The line input is also transformer-balanced with 10k ohm impedance. Pressing the LINE switch on the front panel switches between MIC and LINE inputs. The front panel gain controls indicate LINE gain in white text and MIC gain in yellow text. You can also set the knob to an unmarked position (one step above maximum gain or one step below minimum gain). This position creates a unique harmonically rich and fuzzy sound. The MIC gain has a generous range of -5dB to +65dB. The Line gain range is -15dB to +35dB.

◆OUTPUT
This is the equivalent of a console's master fader. This control is located after the gain stage and before the output stage. It allows you to trim the input signal, so you can set the input to a very hot signal (extra coloration) and then trim the output at the recorder without distorting. In most cases, you'll want to leave it in the full left position.

◆PUSH BUTTONS
The four push buttons have the following functions:
1. 48V phantom on/off
2. Phase Reverse
3. LINE/MIC input switch
4. EQ IN/OUT Push to turn on EQ.

◆EQUALIZER (High Boost)
The TG CHANNEL's High EQ is a shelving-type boost EQ. The boost control can be adjusted from 0-18dB in 2dB steps. It uses an ELMA rotary switch with the highest quality gold contacts.

The EQ bands are as follows:
16kHz, 12kHz, 8.1kHz, 6.1kHz (Shelf EQ)

◆EQUALIZER (Mid Boost)
This is the Mid EQ (boost) section of the TG CHANNEL. It is an inductor-type mid-frequency peak EQ. It comes with a Hi-Q switch, allowing you to sharply switch the EQ curve. The boost control can be adjusted from 0-18dB in 2dB steps.
The EQ bands are as follows:
5.8kHz, 3.9kHz, 2.2kHz, 1.8kHz, 1.2kHz

◆EQUALIZER (Mid Cut)
The TG CHANNEL's Mid EQ is designed to efficiently cut unwanted frequencies. The lower frequency points have a very sharp Q, allowing you to notch out the frequency band. The higher frequency points have a slightly wider Q, resulting in a gentler sound. The cut control has a range of 0-20dB.
The bandwidth is as follows:
300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 850Hz

◆EQUALIZER (Low Boost)
The TG CHANNEL's low EQ uses either a shelf or peak type depending on the frequency. Both the shelf EQ and peak EQ are inductor-based. The shelf boost begins with a very gradual curve. The boost control has a range of 0-20dB.
The bandwidth is as follows:
50, 70, 100, 200Hz (Peak EQ)
100, 200Hz (Shelf EQ)

◆LOW CUT (High Pass)
When the LOW CUT switch is turned on, it is a selectable low-cut filter (high-pass filter) that can be used at 30, 60, 90, 150, or 300 Hz. It gently rolls off the low frequencies.
